Rather quickly it seems South Florida is recovering from Hurricane Irma. We are thankful that we fared far better than our friends on the West Coast, including Naples and Tampa and were spared the utter devastation of the Florida Keys. I’m hoping I can return to the Keys sometime soon.

In the meantime FPL is doing a wonderful job of restoring electricity, having learned it’s lessons from previous storms. Yes, it is taking days for some to be reconnected to electricity, but days are better than weeks, which is what happened in the last major hurricane. Gasoline, however, is still hard to find, and a large portion of businesses, including restaurants are still closed. The foodies are getting hungry… Tonight is our first “real” dinner.

This is our third journey to Paolo’s Three’s Company, a classical high-class Italian restaurant located in Dania Beach. The restaurant is a destination by itself.

Inside you are teleported to the 1960’s

Linguine with Clams

Stepping inside the dimly lit romantic interior, every bit of the walls are covered with stars from the ’40s, ’50s, ’60s and beyond. You can see “The Rat Pack,” Marylin Monroe, and just about every Hollywood Icon. That would be Hollywood California, as opposed to Hollywood Florida by the way. The set-up gives a truly romantic lost in time feel. I could picture Don Draper from “Madmen” sitting at a table having martinis and getting a new client while Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. write up songs in the next booth.

Yes, the ambiance is nice, but the food is divine…

Mussels Marinara

Meals here (they are only open for dinner) are fantastic. The portion size is less than huge and a bit more than modest, which makes it just right for me. The specials of the evening were surf and turf, linguine fra Divadlo, mussels marinara, and linguine with clams.

The walls tell a story…

My wife and I decided to eat “light”, so we both chose the seafood plates. I had the linguine with clams (with the red sauce) and she had the mussels marinara. Both plates come with a small house salad.

Don’t forget the amazing Garlic Bread!

While the portion size is just right, you are getting far more seafood than a normal restaurant would serve, our plates were piled high with clams and mussels. Both dishes were perfectly done and between the atmosphere and the food we could not have asked for a better date night. The staff here is wonderful and Dennis our server, as well as other staff members, visited our table quite often to make sure our every need was met.

The next time you are doing deals for your New York Advertising agency, writing songs for the fellow members of the “Rat Pack” or just having a date with your wonderful wife (or significant other), keep Paolo’s in mind. You can also stop by for a drink at their large bar and they have live jazz entertainment on the weekends.
