Mazzi Cucina my new Italian Lover!

I found a new Italian Lover… and I want more and more!

Recently while visiting a friend in close by North Miami Beach we discovered a small hole-in-the-wall Italian Restaurant. But it’s a hole-in-the-wall that is a portal into another culinary world rarely found in South Florida.

The moment you step into Mazzi Cucina, that other world becomes reality, from the walls with eclectic artwork to the cozy seating, you get the feeling of an Italian bohemian cafe, tucked far away from the tourist spots of the masses.

The menu features authentic old-world recipes.

No ‘fusion’, nothing trendy. This is the food your (Italian) grandmother would have eaten when she was dating your grandfather. Back before cell phones in a slower world where you walked in the town you lived in.

ltalian bread and pesto sauceOur meal starts with mouthwatering bread along with what I think is a handmade pesto sauce. I really could have just stopped here and eaten that all night long. But more goodness was to come.

Our main dishes included Linguini with salmon, Spaghetti Pomodoro, and Linguini with shrimp. I once, some time ago, worked in an Italian restaurant. It’s where my love of cooking first began. This restaurant put them to shame.

Linguini with Salmon and mushroomsThe linguini with salmon was made in a white cream sauce, which was just the right texture, sticking to every bit of the linguini. There were so many tastes at one time it was delightful to process. The spaghetti Pomodoro was also excellent, a simple dish, it often is made in haste with errors, but this too came out perfect. And our linguini with shrimp was a custom order, and without any hesitation, the delightful staff said “no problem”.

Management and staff alike here are the ones who truly make this restaurant into a mini-vacation. So please visit this small Italian neighboorhood and let the affair continue.
