Dr. Limon Ceviche Bar Hallandale

lrg_dsc03081I first met the good people of Dr. Limon Ceviche Bar at their both when I visited (and reported about) the Greater Fort Lauderdale Food and Wine Festival, just a few weeks ago. I love their concept: a restaurant with regional locations which values the South Florida lifestyle and our local food sources.

I’m not sure if Peruvian food has reached the pop culture status of sushi or some other seafood trend, but perhaps it should be. Peruvian food is healthy, low calorie, very tasty and simply fun to eat.

If Peruvian food is not part of your diet yet, it needs to be.

lrg_dsc03078There are certainly quite a few Peruvian restaurants around town. Dr. Limon takes the best parts of the Peruvian legacy and updates both the experience and the dishes themselves. The food here is obviously fresh and the well-designed restaurants offer a superior dining atmosphere.

When I went, we were with a large group of people for another birthday party. The staff handled it very well and all of our dishes came out on time, hot if they needed to be and cold if they needed to be. In other words, food for a party of 14 was precise and on-time. Oh, and the waiters sang ‘happy birthday’ too, a great added touch.

Start with simple + healthy and add upscale and you get Dr. Limon.

lrg_dsc03071I want to recommend perhaps the most classic Peruvian dish, the ceviche. First on their menu, the Remedio Casero (mix) featured a mix of cured fish and seafood including shrimp, squid and more in a classic hot lime pepper sauce.

In case you didn’t know it, Hallandale has done some magic on US 1 and quite a few new multi-story buildings have arisen from the urban decay. Brand new upscale rental units, condos, and retail space have almost magically appeared over a few months of time.

Some fantastic restaurants have moved into the new spaces including Dr. Limon Ceviche Bar. This seems to be the sixth restaurant that they have opened in the South Florida area, ranging from Miami to West Palm Beach. They are located right next to the renamed “Big Easy” casino. In addition to the restaurant, they have a full-service bar.
